Three nurseries submitted projects which increased challenge in their curriculum, with all of the nurseries choosing to select a smaller group of highly able children to work with from the pool of children available. This strategy worked well in the context of the nursery environment with one worker able to concentrate on working through the topic with the children, whilst other workers could work with the other children in the nursery.

The children were able to help decide the topic of interest through the nursery worker’s observations of what the children played with. In this way two of the nurseries choose to investigate transport, whilst he final nursery group chose to investigate the seaside.
